WebOctober 5th 2024: Sven Kranz presented information on the red tide species Karenia brevis at a local outreach event (captains for the environment). Dr. Kranz talked with commercial Fishermen and the interested public about environmental factors leading to bloom formation and sustained bloom occurrence of this species along the West Florida Shelf. WebDr. Sven Kranz Sven is the head of FSU's phytoplankton ecology lab. Since phytoplankton ecology and plankton ecology are very similar, we collaborate a lot. In fact, our collaborations pre-date our time at FSU; we first started working together in Antarctica in 2012. Sven focuses on photophysiology and carbon acquisition by marine phytoplankton.
